Dear Students,

As you were informed yesterday on March 11, 2020, the Hungarian government has declared a state of emergency due to the coronavirus epidemic.

As part of the overall emergency measures, all Hungarian universities are required to switch to distance education and students will not be allowed to visit the university buildings in person. Therefore, our university will be closed to students from March 12th. However, after the spring break, the semester will continue on March 23, and the courses will be conducted in the form of distance learning.

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the situation caused by the epidemic is constantly changing, almost from hour to hour. Accordingly, official and governmental measures are also changing very rapidly. Because of this, the University is in constant contact with the competent authorities so that their decisions, recommendations and measures can be put into effect without delay. In the next few days, please keep an eye on the University's official communications channels, where we will continue to share with you all  of the most up-to-date information.

Today we can share with you the following:

  • We will make every effort to keep to the original timing of the semester and do our best to avoid having to extend the semester, as this is in the best interest of you the students as well as the entire university community.
  • There will be a spring break at BBS next week, March 16th to 20th. This period provides an opportunity to prepare for the post-spring break new style of educational activities.
  • Our colleagues are working hard to ensure that student's course knowledge and the fulfillment of all aspects of the course continues smoothly. During the spring break, the Departments will update their semester course requirements in accordance with the current situation. The Departments will involve the Student Council in this process, as their views are important to us.
  • Students can only handle any matter related to their studies electronically. This also applies to Student Services Office and  all the Departments. Please note that in this current situation, the response time will be longer than average due to the increased number of cases.
  • The midterm week starting on March 23, 2020 will be canceled at all BBS faculties and exams scheduled for this week will be canceled. The conditions for completing the courses will change due to this situation and students will be given detailed information later.

Additional practical information:

  • Student IDs will be automatically extended for the duration of this emergency. Please do not come to us for a student ID sticker now, as the Student Services is closed.
  • We can send you a scanned copy of your diplomas electronically. Please inform the faculty Student Services if you need this. Language examination certificates may also be sent electronically to the Student Services Office.
  • Due to the extraordinary situation, dissertations must only be submitted and uploaded electronically this semester.
  • We will provide you with information on completing your internship later.
  • The fact that your education is taking place right now through distance learning does not mean that your program will change, so everyone will stay in the same program as before March 12th. This also means that there will be no change in scholarship eligibility.

Dormitory Housing

In light of the decision of the Operational Body responsible for the Coronavirus, the dormitories of all higher education institutions have to be completely emptied. All those students who cannot return home (Foreign students, Hungarian students from abroad and Hungarian students who have applied for special dispensation from the Rector's office), must be moved together in one place. This decision is a difficult task for all of us, but given the epidemiological situation, it is the duty of the University and all of its Citizens to fight together against the spread of the Coronavirus. The University will do its utmost to provide as much help as possible in this situation that has arisen.

Details have been sent to students via Neptun. For information please contact the dormitory directly.

Additional Information for our International Students:

  • Our international students may continue to stay in the dormitory if moving home at this time is not possible for them.
  • However, they may of course, decide to stay home permanently after interrupting their studies, in which case:

o With ERASMUS scholarships, BBS students should email their instructors prior to departure to determine the conditions under which they can complete the course through distance learning.

o International students participating in the Stipendium Hungaricum program can complete their course through distance learning from their home country.

o They must report to us if they choose to return home.

• In addition to the university briefings from us, we also ask our international students to keep an eye on the information from their home country, as they will receive up-to-date information with respect to their return home.

We kindly ask you to check our website for general information and instructions regarding coronavirus on a regular basis.

Thank you for your cooperation.
